What makes a big budget Hollywood adventure film successful? If you answered
ichy nasty monsters that seem unstoppable, cool special effects, big guns,
big explosions, and scantily clad babes (or for the women out there - muscular
jocks/rogues); you probably are right. Iria succeeds in combining all of
these elements together, while still somehow maintaining an interesting
plot and creating a fascinating world. For this reason, I would definitely
watch Iria a hundred time in a row before watching the next big budget
Hollywood adventure film (of course after seeing Godzilla, I might include
shooting myself before watching another big budget Hollywood adventure
films).
Any ways, the plot revolves around Iria, a young bounty hunter, who's brother
was killed by Zeiram, the most dangerous life form in the galaxy. She uncovers
evidence that the Tedan Tippedai Corporation was secretly attempting to
import Zeiram as the basis for a powerful new bio-weapon when her brother
was killed. She must expose this conspiracy and take her revenge before
any more innocent people are massacred by the monster. With the aid of
her young sidekick (Kei), a rouge bounty hunter, and a mysterious benefactor,
Iria will attempt to hunt down her brother's killer. The question is who
is hunting whom.
Iria is composed of three OVAs and is definitely worth seeing if you are
in the mood for an action/adventure series.
